Personal injury claimants have a number of frequently asked questions and we post regularly here to help to explain the claims process clearly to claimants. One of the most common things a claimant will ask about is how much their settlement could be, and how long it will take to claim compensation.
Helping your Solicitor
There is no exact answer to how long a claim will take to settle as it is dependent on the specifics of the claim. For example, a claim after an accident at work may differ in processing time to a claim for whiplash after a car accident. But as a claimant you can help! Below we offer a few ways in which you can help your Solicitor to ensure that your claim is processed as quickly as possible by cooperating fully, answering requests for information quickly and in full, and ensuring that you attend medical examinations should you be required to do so. Other important things you can do are as follows:
- Keep records of things like your expenses and losses
- Ensure that you report accidents and injuries to the relevant persons or businesses
- Seek medical attention with your GP or A&E Department
Following these steps will help to ensure that your Solicitor has the details of whom to contact and where to go to build you a water-tight claim. The more that you can do to be ‘in the know’ about who said what to whom, the easier your Solicitor’s task will be and therefore the more quickly your claim will be completed to a point where a settlement can be discussed.
